Viticulture:
A cool spring in the Macedon Ranges set medium size crops. A cool summer and mild autumn led to a very long growing season. The 740 meters above sea level elevation site of Little Hampton has extra cool nights, helping to retain natural acidity in the grapes, being picked in early May. Grapes ripened late in the season with full flavour and phenolic ripeness. Fruit was hand picked in small batches in pristine condition.
Winemaking:
Hand harvested fruit was carefully sorted and destemmed with 100% whole berries into small open fermenters. Natural fermentation occurred with daily hand pump overs and limited plunging to extract fine tannins and flavour. After two weeks on skins the wine was pressed then racked into new (25%) and used French Hogs Heads, where it rested and grew. The wine was then blended and filtered prior to bottling in March 2023.
Technical: Alcohol 13%, pH 3.48, Titratable Acidity 6.6g/L, Residual Sugar Nil

Hunter Gatherer 2013 Macedon Pinot Noir tasting notes:
The grapes for this Macedon Pinot Noir were gathered from Doug’s vineyard in Romsey, hand plunged in small vats, fermented using wild yeast, and aged in French oak barrels.
The wine has a bright ruby colour, with aromas of wild strawberries and French oak spices. The palate is fresh & vibrant, with crunchy red cherry fruit, lively acid and very fine silky tannins. We recommend you drink this wine with some spicy food, the vibrant acidity works well with food, and brings out the beautiful red cherry and wild strawberry fruit flavours.
