2018 Haddow & Dineen Private Universe Pinot Noir $48

SMALL BATCH WINES, MADE BY TWO MATES, FROM A TINY VINEYARD IN NORTHERN TASMANIA. Haddow + Dineen is a collaborative winemaking project from cheesemaker, Nick Haddow, and winemaker, Jeremy Dineen with the aim to make small batches of intensely Tasmanian wines. Our grapes are sourced exclusively from a single, tiny vineyard in Yorktown, near the mouth of the Tamar River in northern Tasmania where vines grow in white quartz gravel. Our core belief is that great fruit, from special places, guided by the right hands is what makes great wine. We value maximum consideration over minimal intervention – for every wine we produce, there are a thousand choices to be made about whether to impose ourselves or simply employ vigilant inaction. Hand-picked, 50% whole bunch fermented, wild yeast, unfined and unfiltered. Low crops from silica quartz soil produce intense dark cherry and wild red fruit aromas, with spice and herb characters coming from the whole bunch fermentation. Intricate red fruit and spice flavours flourish in a rich palate with savoury finish and fine, grainy tannins.  Powerful yet subtle, evocative, generous, layered and structured.

2018 La Villa Tower Block Pinot Noir $48

At La Villa we reflect our inspiration from Emilia-Romagna where we once lived, our grapes are lovingly grown, hand pruned and hand picked before being crafted into premium wine under the watchful eye of our wine makers, Fran Austin and Shane Holloway. We would like to say, whilst our inspirations comes from our years living in Italy, our endeavour will always be to produce wines that reflect the unique characteristics of our cool climate here in Tasmania. A well structured, rich bodied Pinot. 2018 TOWER BLOCK PINOT NOIR - tasting notes: Spicy perfumed nose with a bright bold chocolaty palate, with lovely fruits of the forest characteristics. Silky but firm tannins, whilst hard to resist now this wine will reward with careful cellaring for years to come. WINESTATE awarded 5 Stars VINTAGE NOTES Late frost first week in November, with minimal damage, followed by a cool start to Spring. Good weather during flowering resulted in high yield of excellent quality fruit. With day time temperatures above average and cool nights leading into harvest allowed the fruit to ripen and develop intense flavours whilst retaining acidity. Harvest date 9th April La Villa Tower Block is only made in the years where the conditions are perfect and the fruit is exceptional. Bunches and clones are hand picked and selected for this small production, approximately 2,000 bottles. WINEMAKING Blended clones: 777 115 DV42 DV26 Mixture of 30% whole bunch and 70% destemmed Fermented in open top vessel, cultured yeast added after 5 day soak at ambient temperature.
